Name : Donghyuk Kim (DH)
Work Experience : Been working in the battery industry since 2019.

The purpose of this website is for me to have a little fun exploring the Lithium-ion Battery industry. Given that electrochemistry in itself is already impossibly difficult to understand, it’s an attempt to organize and give order to the madness that is ‘industrial electrochemistry’ - strictly from my perspective. Explaining the phenomenon that’s happening in a coin cell in-situ is hard enough to analyze and quantify and yet, the electric vehicle industry, which adopts a much, much larger battery system is one of the fastest growing industries in the world in the name of sustainability. Expect growing pains.

I have a Ph.D. in Lithium-ion Batteries focused on Silicon and NCM but the crux of my Ph.D. thesis was based on managing and understanding the mechanical properties of electrode materials. This unique perspective that I had accrued during my thesis allows me to consider another aspect crucial in the electric vehicle industry - mechanical robustness and impact analysis, which are so often considered only when the battery system is to be bolted into the vehicle frame.

Please be mindful that none of the questions and answers that I pose in these posts are related to what’s happening in my actual work - this is just my ‘wild mind’ wondering and wandering.
